With a Dutch language programme
Within the International Stream, the language of instruction is English for both the English National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). By teaching the Dutch language programme (writing, reading and speaking) on a daily basis, the Dutch language can be developed at an intensive level and a connection to both international and Dutch education remains possible.
The International Stream
The English International Stream of the Hollandse School in Singapore provides excellent education according to the English National Curriculum standards and criteria and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) enables us to teach the subjects in a thematic way and with a global perspective. By integrating IPC and a Dutch language programme into the daily curriculum, we create a mirrored learning experience to the Dutch Stream in our primary school. For families who have no plans to move to the Netherlands or Belgium in the near future, and/or for families with multiple nationalities and languages in the same family, we recommend the International Stream for a good connection to international further education and retaining the Dutch language at the highest level.

Intensive and qualitative Dutch language lessons
The intensive and qualitative Dutch language programme of the International stream helps to develop your children's Dutch language. By offering Dutch language lessons as part of the daily curriculum, we ensure that your child develops a good understanding of the language in 3 years and becomes fluent in verbal communication. With the knowledge and experience of 100 years of Dutch education in Singapore, we expect to bring the children of the international stream to a level of proficiency in the Dutch language that will enable them to enter Dutch education. However, it is also important that parents pay attention to the Dutch language at home and practice it actively as much as possible. As a supplement, extra Dutch language lessons can be booked at an additional cost as part of the Extra Curricular Activities.
Multilingual children have a more conscious and subconscious knowledge of language. Skills such as problem-solving abilities, creativity and adaptability also increase in children who learn more than one language. These are valuable 21st century skills which are useful in today’s society. Having a thorough mastery of a second language makes a vital contribution to your child’s development and also leads to better school results.
Confident, happy and transition-proof
Since the Hollandse School is an international school, classes are conducted in either Dutch or English and students are able to master a second language at high level. The intensity and quality of our second language education therefore eases your child’s transition to a Dutch or International Primary School. In addition, the school prepares its group 7 (Year 5) and group 8 (Year 6) students to be academically ready for a smooth transition to secondary school and it also builds a solid foundation for a confident and happy child that is adaptable for changing circumstances from a rooted starting point.
